The Secure Technology Alliance mDL Showcase in San Diego earlier this year put headlights on the mobile driver license (mDL). The showcase was held alongside the Identity and Payments Summit. This gathering provided a unique forum for stakeholders to gain a clear understanding of how the mDL, also known as mobile digital license, works with ID management and payment systems.
Veridocs was among a select group of companies to provide demos during the showcase. Our Chief Technology Officer Chad Coker and Sales Engineering Manager Joe Hayden demonstrated mDL technology as part of our Evolution Platform. They walked through how companies can seamlessly integrate mDL for age verification, hotel check-in and vendor verification to increase security and convenience.
There are great security benefits to mDLs, but adoption of this new technology is advancing slowly. Unlike verifying a physical driver license with visual inspection or authenticating with light sources to reveal security features, the authentication process for mDLs directly interacts with the Issuing Authority. Technical information is transferred between the verifying party and the Issuing Authority through a secure communication channel, making it extremely difficult to counterfeit. Each mDL has a unique token that identifies the mDL holder and the mDL itself.
If you would like a demo of how Veridocs can bring mDL into your identity management, please get in touch.
Adoption across the US is advancing as shown in this mDL implementation map from the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). Read more about the Secure Technology Alliance mDL Showcase here.
